Enough already
Okay. I admit it. On May 4th, when
soulfly1974 asked of my move to L.A. "how will this affect (if at all) your work on the Venture Borthers? will you be back for season three, or will someoe else be voicing Rusty?" I responded with a joke: "Rusty will now be voiced by the acclaimed New York stage actor Liev Schreiber." This statement struck me as so patently and humorously absurd that I repeated it in my post of May 8th. Many readers immediately recognized that I was making deadpan joke in keeping with this blog's long, storied tradition of close-to-the-vest humor. Some weren't so sure so I made it clear in the post's comments that I was indeed kidding. I should note that it has never been my intention on this Livejournal to spread "fake rumors" or fool anyone but I find smiley-wink emoticons to be the online equivalent of a laugh track.
Later that night, Toon Zone posted an item headlined "James Urbaniak to leave his role as Dr. Thaddeus Venture on The Venture Bros." and all heck broke loose. The "story" was picked up by the Adult Swim Message Boards. (Livejournal's more
urbaniak-savvy Fans of the Venture Brothers Community had actually nipped the rumor in the bud prior to the Toon Zone post.) The morning of May 9th I posted a screen shot of the Toon Zone post (correctly assuming that the actual post was not long for this world) and noted that "I also recently revealed on my blog that a current Starburst commercial is based on a 1944 dance piece by Martha Graham." The message: For the sake of humor, I don't always traffic in the truth. (Note to truly_bemused: If someone asks you why the chicken crossed the road, they are not spreading fake rumors that a chicken crossed a road.)
You would think that would've put an end to it, but no. Like an out-of-control wildfire, the rumor would not die. Even after yesterday's attempt at closure, where I pledged my love and loyalty to Jackson Publick by posting the lyrics to "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," people are still writing in asking why I'm leaving The Venture Brothers.
I'm not leaving The Venture Brothers. There was never any thought of my leaving The Venture Brothers. My moving to L.A. is a nonissue. They have recording studios there. Patrick Warburton lives there.
I realize that all this gnashing of teeth came out of a very real appreciation of the show and I've actually found this whole little episode weirdly touching. I love being a part of The Venture Brothers and I'll be with it as long as they keep making it. And I want to reiterate that it was not and has never been my intention to fuck with people or spread rumors. I'm just trying to be amusing and entertaining.
BTW, I shouldn't be telling you this, but Steven Rattazzi is being replaced by Patrick Dempsey.
Also. James Urbaniak? I love you, man, I really do. But spreading fake rumors that you're leaving the show just because you're moving to LA? SO NOT FUNNY, man. Totally not. Ever. You're losing some major points for this.Wait a minute. Livejournal has a point system? Why is this the first time I've heard this?
