HOW DARE THEY!!!1!

Stay classy.

Well, my old drinking buddy Scooter Libby has been convicted on four felony counts. Dude, e-mail me. We are totally getting drunk together. Then we are going to beat this thing on appeal! When I become a regular on this (and as God is my witness I am going to do everything in my power to make that happen), you can expect a big donation to the Libby Legal Defense Trust. And if we can get Ron Silver to play the other caveman, we're talking dinosaur dollars! I love you, man.

Duh. I took Out of the Cave: Prehistory in Fact and Fiction where I also learned that the Geico commercials are one of the "most sensitive" dramatic renderings of prehistoric man. Mock the "Cavemen" sitcom if you must but it will give our noble ancestors their due. I am proud to aspire to it.

Are you one of the Geico cavemen in the commercials? I knew Jim Rose was one of them. I never knew who played any of the other cavemen. It would be cool if they let Jim Rose do his "Dr. Blockhead" act of pounding nails into his nose on the cavemen television show like they did in the X-Files(although I somehow doubt ABC will let that happen).

I'm not a Geico caveman but I am the voice of the late-night talk show host who interviews the lizard.

The actors who play the cavemen are named Jeff Daniel Phillips, Ben Weber and John Lehr. The Jim Rose thing appears to be an internet myth. Unless he confirms it himself somewhere.

I did a Google search for "Jim Rose" and "caveman" and the only thing that pointed any connection between Jim Rose and the Geico cavemen were references to Jim Rose's MySpace profile. Granted the internet may not be a perfect source of information(for example, when I did a Google search for Matt Pinfield and WPRB, one of the radio stations he used to DJ at, there weren't many sources that mentions the fact he used to DJ there) but it looks as though everything's weighing against Jim Rose. I just don't understand where the humor lies in claiming to be one of the Geico cavemen if Jim Rose is trying to make a joke of some sort. If there is some kind of actual humor to Jim Rose's caveman joke that I'm overlooking then I'm Matt Pinfield.

It's funny. I was waiting in line this morning to drop off my car, and they announced they were about to read the verdict for the Scooter case in "just a few minutes". I waited as long as I could. Sadly, I had to leave the car (disaster ensued, but that's a different story) before the verdict was announced. Today was so distracting, I didn't think to check. Then I come home and find this, and then a minute later they announce it on the radio.

Hooray!

Politicization

2007-03-09 08:32 pm UTC (link)
Actually, I'm not laughing. I'm horrified. This administration has consistently bullied politicized and fouled up FEMA, Science, Education and our Judicial system.
I'm quoting The New York Times:
"Donald Shields and John Cragan, two professors of communication, have compiled a database of investigations and/or indictments of candidates and elected officials by U.S. attorneys since the Bush administration came to power. Of the 375 cases they identified, 10 involved independents, 67 involved Republicans, and 298 involved Democrats. The main source of this partisan tilt was a huge disparity in investigations of local politicians, in which Democrats were seven times as likely as Republicans to face Justice Department scrutiny."
And this is all in the name of 9/11.
One would think someone was benefiting from terrorism.
I don't think it's Osama.
That you are so young and believe yourself so right horrifies me even more.

The Niger/Yellowcake story is widely discredited (the State Department agreed with Wilson) but because a Senate intelligence committee report was not unanimous on the issue the Wall Street Journal and other Bush loyalists like to suggest that Wilson's statements were "false." If you're a Bush Administration apologist it's Wilson who's the liar--not the high-ranking Administration official convicted of perjury.

Thanks for that.

I have subscribed to Time magazine for 10 years. This is one story I couldnt believe; that someone in the Administration outed one of their own spys for political purposes. Surely thats treason?

Time certainly reported that the yellowcake story was de-bunked. Its interesting and a little bit scary if the Administration can hold onto a contrary view and hold it up as fact. Is this the line Fox are taking in this story?

Its all very Orwellean. Thank goodness there is no state-run media *cough*Fox*cough* in US, otherwise.....Da-svi-da-niya Comrade!

Here's how Orwellian it gets:
[info]urbaniak
2007-03-08 12:39 am UTC (link)
Wilson's original report confirmed that a member of the Iraqi Government made a trip to Niger in 1999 but that there was no evidence then or in 2002 that the former had sought uranium from the latter. He concluded that an Iraq-Niger-Yellowcake connection was unlikely. To Bush loyalists Wilson's report was therefore open to interpretation and not definitive. In fact some Bushites like to say that Wilson proved a connection by confirming the 1999 meeting. This is where the Wall Street Journal editorial page is coming from. If you read the sentence you quoted closely you'll see that they are not actually saying that the now universally held belief that there was no Iraq-Niger-Yellowcake connection is false. They're saying that Wilson's later claims that he debunked these claims in his report are false (specifically in his famous New York Times op-ed that started Cheney's smear campaign against him). Never mind that today no one believes there was ever a Iraq-Niger-Yellowcake connection. The important thing is to put the words "Joseph Wilson" and "falsely" in the same sentence. This method of twisting the truth and cherry-picking data to serve a dubious storyline is of course the same method that was used by the Bush Administration to get us into the war.

I dont know if I am getting all Cold War about this, but in this cynical politician/media world we live in, have we forgotten that a spy was outed for petty political gain? Maybe it isnt so petty, after all a war was in involved!

But still, I am 33 and was brought up in the Cold War like you and a lot of your readers. We all have spies, and some very important work was done by patriots risking all for their country. There is enough movies about spies left out in the cold by dodgy governments to know that this is crime number one! What would Brock say?

But to out a spy of your own country just to dis-credit her husband? And ruin any potential work she had done? Thats bloody treason in my book!
